Wander Women's Wanderings May 2016 - (AZ-UT-WY-ID-MT)

Our stay with Sherry & Ray was terrific!  Couldn't ask for better hosts....they moved their RV to a friend's house and let us park inside their RV Port with all the amenities of home!

Tres Amigas!
Great Sagauro cactus all along the freeway in AZ.

Caught a lovely rainbow, right from our site!

Ray really showed off their great pontoon boat!  We traveled about 8 miles on the Colorado River!

Lots of great doggie walks....at least twice a day.  Aunt Sherry taught Molly to stop at crossings and wait for a treat before we crossed.  She LOVES her Aunt Sherry!!
                                                       Pretty sweet accommodations!!

Just like we stop for gas at self serve locations, in AZ you can stop for WATER at self-serve locations!

Neighbors were very friendly, too!
In addition to the great walks and tours of the area around Yuma, we walked across the border into Mexico for a day.  Not sure why I didn't take any pictures in Mexico!  :-(

From Yuma, we headed up to Williams, AZ.  We wanted to camp in a federal campground nearer the south rim of Grand Canyon, but without reservations, we were counting on the "first come" spots, so we stayed the first night in a private RV park in Williams.

With LOTS of other RV'ers, who apparently didn't mind spending that much $$$$.  But we set out the next morning in the truck and picked out the spots we could fit in and went back for the camper.  Lucked into a really sweet spot!!

Campsite #54.

Several elk roamed around the campground every day.  Lots of squirrels, too.  Took some great hikes around the area on our "rest days" after long hikes at the Grand Canyon.

H E Bear liked it, too!

We stayed the whole 14 day limit at Ten-X Campground and highly recommend it to anyone!  While there we may many trips to the South Rim, plus a couple to Williams and Flagstaff, around the eastern end to the Navajo Nation and Little Colorado River confluence and other communities on the east side of the Canyon.  We learned pretty quickly that we couldn't make 14 days with just our little solar panel to keep the battery up!  So, one of our trips to Flagstaff was to pick up our beloved Honda generator!!!
The best investment EVER for boondock camping!  Because of this generator (and S&R's hospitality---see more in MT) we averaged $14/day for camping spots even though we paid over $60/night several times!  We truly prefer the smaller federal campgrounds with no electric hookups to ANY RV park/resort!  We also found several free spots to camp in Idaho and Montana where we felt perfectly safe.  We'll do more of that in future trips!

It would be totally impossible for me to pick 2 or 3 great shots of the Canyon, but I can't post the 1000+ either!  So, just know that if you haven't been there, you MUST go.  And please plan to stay at least a week on the South Rim side.  We don't have the stamina for long walks EVERY day, but even staying two weeks, we left a lot to see for next time!
